Rules And Regulations
1. This competition is for professional and amateur violinists and is open to Indian nationals, to persons of Indian origin and to foreigners domiciled in India for more than 5 years.
2. There is no upper of lower age limits. However, in case of a tie, the prize will be awarded to the older participant. First prize winner of the previous David Menezes All India Violin competition will not take part in this Violin competition 2012.
3. The application form must be completed in all respects, duly signed and sent by registered mail by 26th December 2011, or hand delivered by the same date to the following address:

4. There is no registration fee for this Competition.
5. For the purpose of selecting candidates, applicants have to submit any one or more of the following:
a) A copy of a certificate of at least grade 8 violin practical exam of Trinity Guildhall or Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or equivalent.
b) A video recording or CD of about 15 minutes which showcases the applicant's capabilities.
c) A letter from the teacher certifying that the candidate is a grade 8 student or above.
A maximum of 30 candidates will be selected from all the applicants; the criteria will be certificates and/or video/audio recordings. Your selection will be confirmed by email by 28th Dec, 2011.
6) Applicants choosing any piece by a 20th or 21st century composer will have to submit a copy of the score for the perusal of the jury at the time of submitting their application.
Competition Dates
The competition will be held between 16th to 22nd of January, 2012. The exact days of the preliminary rounds, semifinals and finals will be communicated to you in due course. Finalists of the previous David Menezes Violin Competitions will go directly to the semifinals.Competition Format
The competition will be organized as follows:First preliminary round: Candidates will play any piece/pieces of their choice for upto a maximum of six minutes. Each participant will have to show his/her identification documents to the organizers before being allowed to play. The participants will play in alphabetical order of their surnames from the starting letter drawn on the first day of the competition.
Second round: Upto 10 candidates will be selected for this round. Each competitor will play a programme of upto ten minutes.
Final: Upto 5 candidates will be selected to play in this final round, which will be a public concert. Each finalist will play a programme (including a brief spoken introduction about the pieces played) upto 16 minutes of stage time.
Accompanist
The candidates are requested to make arrangements for their accompanist. In case of difficulty, please let us know so that we can arrange a corepetitor (piano accompanist) to accompany you.Hospitality
The organizer will provide free accommodation to candidates from outside Goa and to their accompanist, during the period of their participation in the competition. Those who want to participate in the whole festival starting on 10th January, 2012 and avail of masterclasses and instruction from eminent professors and performers from Germany may inform us in advance.Prizes

The first prize will not be awarded if the best performance falls below certain minimum standards to be decided by the jury.
Jury
The jury will consist of at least two outstanding and eminent musicians/violinists. The jury's decision on any issue linked to the competition will be final and binding on the candidates. No protest or correspondence of any kind will be entertained regarding the decisions of the jury.Judging Criteria
